Nuvoco Vistas Corp. Ltd. has inaugurated its Limla Cement Plant in Surat, Gujarat, marking its entry into the state’s cement market and a key milestone in the integration of Vadraj Cement Limited (VCL) following its acquisition in 2025.
The commissioning of the 2 million tonnes per annum (MMTPA) grinding unit is part of VCL’s 6 MMTPA installed cement capacity and strengthens Nuvoco’s manufacturing footprint in Western India. The facility complements the company’s clinker unit at Kutch and is expected to enhance its ability to serve Gujarat and adjoining markets in Western Maharashtra.
Nuvoco acquired Vadraj Cement Limited through the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) in June 2025 for ₹1,800 crore. The acquisition included clinker and grinding units in Kutch and Surat, high-grade captive limestone reserves, and a captive jetty, providing the company with improved raw material security and logistics capabilities.
According to the company, the Limla facility will manufacture its full portfolio of cement products, including Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC), Portland Slag Cement (PSC), Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC), and Portland Composite Cement (PCC), along with products under the Nuvoco Duraguard range.
The company said the plant will support a phased capacity ramp-up in Gujarat while enabling cement supplies to the western market from local production. This is expected to reduce dependence on its northern manufacturing facilities for western demand and improve overall logistics efficiency. The facility is also expected to generate operational synergies with Nuvoco’s plants at Nimbol and Chittorgarh in Rajasthan.
With the addition of the Limla grinding unit, Nuvoco is progressing towards its long-term expansion target of 35 MMTPA cement capacity by FY2028. Once all Vadraj Cement assets become fully operational, nearly 40% of the company’s total cement capacity will be located in North and West India, strengthening its presence in two of the country’s fastest-growing construction markets.
Commenting on the inauguration, Jayakumar Krishnaswamy, Managing Director, Nuvoco Vistas Corp. Ltd., said the project reinforces the company’s strategy of disciplined expansion while enhancing its ability to serve customers across North and West India. He added that the successful revival of the acquired assets demonstrates Nuvoco’s capability to unlock value from strategic acquisitions and support long-term profitable growth.
