Archstudio has designed the interiors for Songmont’s Huaihai Road store in Shanghai, China, drawing inspiration from wind-sculpted canyons. The retail space is one of five stores designed for the brand, which specializes in experiential bag design. Songmont’s stores are strategically located in high-profile shopping districts and iconic malls, showcasing a variety of conditions and scales.
The design team explored various landscapes, including natural rock formations, coastal reefs, and classical garden rockeries, to create a spatial design that resonates with the regional cultural context and site conditions. The store’s interior features soft, warm, and bright elements, creating a joyful and relaxing shopping environment.
To overcome the challenges of a limited design and construction timeline, Archstudio adopted a factory-prefabrication and on-site assembly strategy using CNC-engineered laminated wood and fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP). This approach allowed for scalable retail rollouts while maintaining customized design.
