Renowned Italian architects Michele de Lucchi, Carlo Ratti, and Mario Cucinella will speak at Hong Kong’s Business of Design Week (BODW) this December. The event, organized by the Hong Kong Design Centre, is Asia’s premier annual event on design, innovation and brands, with Italy as the partner country this year.
De Lucchi, known for designing Pavilion Zero at the 2015 Milan World Expo, Ratti, ranked among the top ten most-cited scholars in urban planning, and Cucinella, curator of the Italian Pavilion at the 16th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, will share their expertise at BODW.
The event will feature themed sessions on interior design, jewelry, motion picture restoration, design education, and leather workshops. Italy’s collaboration with Hong Kong extends beyond BODW, with partnerships with major design-related institutions and cultural events, including Opera Hong Kong’s production of Aida and the Hong Kong pavilion at the Venice Art Biennale in 2026.
Carmelo Ficarra, Italian Consul General in Hong Kong and Macau, emphasized the importance of promoting Italian design and fostering exchanges between Italy and Hong Kong. “Maintaining strong ties with key stakeholders is essential not only for promoting Italian design in Hong Kong, but also for fostering broader exchanges between the two regions,” Ficarra said.
