The 2025 South Australian Architecture Awards celebrated the state’s top architectural projects, recognizing designs that showcase innovation, sustainability and community engagement. The awards ceremony, held at the iconic Queen’s Theatre in Adelaide, honored projects that contribute to South Australia’s cultural identity, economy and liveability.
The Flinders University Health and Medical Research Building by Architectus won the SA Architecture Medal, praised for its exceptional synthesis of architectural ambition, technical complexity, cultural depth and environmental responsibility. “The Flinders University Health and Medical Research Building stood out for its exceptional synthesis of architectural ambition, technical complexity, cultural depth and environmental responsibility,” said the jury.
Other award-winning projects included Chihuly in the Botanic Garden by Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium, which won the City of Adelaide Prize for Design Excellence and the People’s Choice Award. Coopers Brewery by Studio Nine Architects received the Keith Neighbour Award for Commercial Architecture, while The University of Adelaide’s Union House by Swanbury Penglase won the David Saunders Award for Heritage.
Stephen Ward, 2025 Awards Director, said, “The awards celebrate the significant role architects play in shaping communities, supporting sustainability and enhancing quality of life.” The awards also introduced the SA Creative Collaboration Prize, recognizing creative partnerships across architecture, design, the arts and creative industries.
