British designer Lee Broom has transformed a grand 1920s villa in Mexico City into an immersive lighting experience, showcasing over 50 of his sculptural works. The installation, ‘The Resident’, is part of Mexico City Art Week and runs until 10 April 2026. Broom’s designs, including the Hail chandelier and Requiem series, are carefully curated to resonate with the villa’s architecture.
The Hail chandelier, newly crafted for the installation, cascades down the villa’s central atrium, while works from the Requiem series are hand-sculpted in plaster to resemble draped fabric. Broom’s use of trompe l’oeil and drapery motifs is also seen in his Overture collection, a wallpaper collaboration with Calico Wallpaper. The installation showcases Broom’s theatrical and surrealist influences, blending classical sculpture with modern art.
“I wanted to create a fairly classic gallery presentation with a slight residential feel,” says Broom, who has worked with Diez Company, the villa’s owners, for many years. The exhibition is a testament to Broom’s unique approach to lighting design, which combines art, architecture, and drama.
