Goa’s distinctive model of sustainable architecture, which views heritage not as a relic to be preserved but as a living resource for the future, will be showcased at the National Conference on Goan Architecture & Sustainability in New Delhi on July 31.
The conference, conceived and initiated by Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and organised by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC), will bring together policymakers, architects, planners, conservationists, developers and industry leaders from across India. The event will explore how the Goa Model can help shape the next phase of the country’s-built environment.
The conference is aligned with the national vision of “Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi” — development alongside heritage — articulated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Goa is widely regarded as one of the strongest examples of this approach in practice.
In the coastal state, heritage conservation and modern construction have been integrated rather than treated as competing priorities. This approach has resulted in settlements that combine contemporary standards of comfort and performance while retaining their distinctive Goan identity.
