Designed around the principles of comfort, culture, and community, the space reflects a broader transition in airport architecture—from efficiency-driven transit zones to immersive, lifestyle-led environments.
Designing for a Mindset, Not an Age
While inspired by Gen Z values, Gate Z is not prescriptive or age-specific. Instead, it is shaped by a mindset defined by authenticity, ease, inclusivity, sustainability, and intuitive technology. Located adjacent to the 080 International Lounge in Terminal 2, the lounge draws cues from the rhythm of a contemporary high street—fluid, social, and layered with moments of pause.
The spatial layout prioritises movement and choice, with gently curved circulation paths guiding passengers through a series of interconnected zones. These transitions are designed to feel instinctive rather than directed, allowing users to shift seamlessly between working, socialising, resting, or engaging with the space on their own terms.
Materiality, Light and Spatial Atmosphere
The interior language balances global sensibilities with local expression. A warm palette of cyan and burnt orange, paired with streetlamp-inspired lighting, sets a relaxed yet energetic tone. Sustainable materials and tactile finishes reinforce the lounge’s people-first ethos, while ambient lighting softens the spatial experience, offering visual calm amid the airport’s constant motion.
Interactive and flexible seating typologies encourage both collective and individual use—supporting solitude without isolation, and social interaction without intrusion. Subtle AI-led integrations enhance navigation and personalisation, embedded quietly into the environment rather than dominating it, aligning technology with ease rather than spectacle.

The name Gate Z itself emerged from a nationwide naming contest, inviting young creatives across India—students, designers, and professionals—to participate in shaping the identity of the space. This act of co-creation reflects the lounge’s core philosophy: design as a collaborative, inclusive process rather than a top-down gesture.

Gate Z reinforces BLR Airport’s larger design vision for Terminal 2—one that integrates architecture, sustainability, local culture, and passenger comfort into a cohesive spatial narrative. Rooted in Bengaluru’s identity while aligned with global design standards, the lounge exemplifies how airports can function as civic interiors, offering meaningful experiences rather than mere transit.
