Zaha Hadid Architects has unveiled its latest project, a vertex hotel in Okinawa, Japan, that’s a perfect blend of innovative design, technology, and harmony with nature. This hotel is part of NOT A HOTEL’s new brand, vertex by NOT A HOTEL, which focuses on the intersection of architecture and technology.
The hotel’s design prioritizes sustainability and preserving Okinawa’s coastal and marine ecosystems. It’s elevated to withstand harsh weather and uses natural ventilation to improve guest comfort. Local materials like intricately carved Okinawa pine and limestone are used, showcasing the island’s architectural legacy and local craftsmanship.
The custom canopies provide covered outdoor living areas, complementing the subtropical environment and offering stunning ocean views. The hotel’s design is a continuation of ZHA’s research on composition and materiality, driven by explorations of landscape formations in nature.
