A major construction project is underway at the Rolls-Royce Sinfin A site in Derby, with the aerospace and defence firm seeking permission to build a new 3,000 sq m two-storey manufacturing services building. This development marks a significant investment in the site’s infrastructure, aiming to replace outdated facilities with modern, efficient spaces that enhance working conditions and operational efficiency.
The proposed building would feature a sloped roof with solar panels and plastic rooflights, reaching a height of up to 12.6m. It would be used for manufacturing, office space, and welfare areas, including toilets and a canteen. According to the proposal, the upgrades would “enable Rolls-Royce to improve operational efficiency, enhance working conditions, and ensure compliance with current health, safety, and environmental standards.”
The construction is expected to take around 10 months, with no changes planned to the existing access to Sinfin A. The council will decide whether an environmental impact assessment is required before a formal application is submitted.
