Interior-Led Art Retreat Showcases Kashmir Craft Language
Reinforcing its commitment to regional material narratives within global design standards, Radisson Hotel Group South Asia hosted an exclusive Art, Design & Culture Retreat at Radisson Collection Hotel & Spa, Riverfront Srinagar. The initiative positions the property as a design-led interior destination within the Radisson Collection portfolio, using craft as a spatial and material anchor. Anchored in the theme Art. Craft. Culture. Kashmir., the retreat activated the regionโs artistic heritage through tactile, process-driven sessions that inform the hotelโs interior language. At the core of the programme was an Art & Design Workshop led by Amrai Dua, structured as a storytelling collage exercise. Participants created personalised diary covers using tearing, layering, and composition โ techniques that mirror surface treatments, textile layering, and material juxtaposition used across the hotelโs public areas and guestroom detailing.
The workshop drew directly from Kashmirโs traditional motifs, textures, and craftsmanship, translating them into contemporary interior expressions. Tactile exploration became a live material study: hand-torn edges informed edge conditions on soft furnishings, layered paper compositions echoed upholstery layering, and collage narratives influenced curated art walls and FF&E palettes. โAt Radisson Hotel Group, we have consistently focused on creating experiences that seamlessly blend international hospitality with the cultural essence of each destination. Through initiatives like the Art & Design Workshop at Radisson Collection Hotel & Spa, Riverfront Srinagar, we aimed to celebrate Kashmirโs rich artistic heritage while offering our guests an opportunity to engage with it in a personal and meaningful way,โ said Nikhil Sharma, Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer, South Asia, Radisson Hotel Group South Asia. The approach reflects a larger design strategy of embedding local craft into the interior architecture framework, from joinery patterns and textile weaves to lighting warmth and art curation. By framing heritage as a design input rather than ornament, the interiors achieve continuity between site context and global brand standards.
The retreat functions as an interior design brief in motion. Collage outputs generated by participants served as concept boards for mood, texture, and colour blocking across key zones. The process informs FF&E specifications, custom rug patterns, wall-covering textures, and artisan-led accessories that reference Kashmiri craft without literal replication. This method links hospitality interiors to regional construction and maker networks, ensuring material authenticity in execution. The Radisson Collection Hotel & Spa, Riverfront Srinagar thus operates as a case study in context-driven interior architecture: riverfront siting informs daylight strategy, while local craft vocabularies guide interior detailing and material selection. The result is a cohesive spatial identity where art and craft are embedded in the built fabric, not applied post-completion. Radisson Hotel Group continues to expand its design-led portfolio in India with over 200 hotels in operation and development.
