Oscar Concessao will be inducted into the University of Oklahoma’s Christopher C. Gibbs College of Architecture Hall of Fame (GCA HOF), an honour bestowed upon individuals of exceptional character who have made a profound and enduring impact on the college, its community, and the world beyond.
Dr. Oscar G. Concessao, an alumnus of the University of Oklahoma, is a highly respected architect and educator whose contributions to architecture span more than three decades and stretch across India and the international stage. Alongside his wife and business partner, Dr. Ponni M. Concessao—an alumna of Cornell University—he co-founded Oscar & Ponni Architects, a firm celebrated for its integration of sustainable design, advanced technology, and cultural heritage.
Dr. Concessao earned his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the National Institute of Technology in Trichy, India, and received his early education at the St. Aloysius Institutions in Mangalore. His academic and professional journey led him to Oklahoma, where his connection with the Gibbs College of Architecture began and flourished.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Concessao has led the design and execution of more than 1,000 architectural projects worldwide, encompassing residential, commercial, institutional, healthcare, and government infrastructure. Among his most acclaimed works is the Telangana State Secretariat in Hyderabad—a 1.2-million-square-foot landmark that stands as the largest green secretariat in Asia and one of India’s most technologically advanced administrative hubs. The building is celebrated for its fusion of traditional Indian design elements with cutting-edge sustainable technologies, embodying Dr. Concessao’s commitment to environmentally responsible and culturally resonant architecture.
The induction into the GCA Hall of Fame recognizes not only Dr. Concessao’s architectural achievements but also his ongoing dedication to mentorship, education, and elevating global standards in the built environment. His legacy continues to inspire students, educators, and practitioners alike.
