A 1,700-square-foot desert rental retreat in Pioneertown, California, designed by Anastasiya Dudik, has won the 2025 Best of Year award for Small Country House. The organic, dome-shaped structure is inspired by sacred geometry and sculptural minimalism, aiming to slow the nervous system and immerse guests in stillness.
The retreat’s design features sprayed-in-place concrete, porthole windows, and curved cutouts that allow daylight to flow in. Interiors are influenced by 1970s utopian architecture and wabi-sabi restraint, with hand-troweled plaster walls, cement flooring, and natural-fiber textiles.
Built-in furnishings include a circular conversation pit with a view of the horizon, creating a unique blend of functionality and serene ambiance. The retreat is part womb, part chapel, offering a tranquil escape in the California desert.
