OFIS Arhitekti has completed the reconstruction and extension of a historic post-war home in Ljubljana, Slovenia, known as House Under the Poplars. The original house, designed by France and Marta Ivanลกek as part of the Naselje Murgle development, was carefully dismantled and rebuilt using contemporary materials to preserve its essence.ยน ยฒ
The renovation maintains the open-plan layout, with a “greenhouse-like” timber-framed glazed extension framing views of the surrounding trees and park. The interior features pale timber lining, a small wine cellar, and a freestanding fireplace. According to OFIS Arhitekti, “The project began with a simple ambition, to show that the small, timber houses of Naselje Murgle can be gently renewed without losing the qualities that make the neighbourhood so loved”.ยณ
The studio’s approach balances modern updates with cultural sensitivity, showcasing a possible path for renewing similar homes in the area. “Brick elements and vertical wood cladding continue the vocabulary of the 1980s houses, while the transparent extension introduces a contemporary softness that still feels at home among the trees,” OFIS Arhitekti said.
