DIB Bangkok, Thailand’s first international contemporary art museum, has been completed in a repurposed 1980s warehouse at the intersection of Rama IV and Sukhumvit. Designed by WHY Architecture in collaboration with Thailand’s Architects 49 (A49), the museum showcases a unique blend of industrial and modern architecture.
The 75,000-square-foot museum features 11 galleries, a central courtyard, an outdoor sculpture garden, and a penthouse for special events. The design incorporates elements like preserved Thai-Chinese window grilles and a sawtooth roof to create a meditative atmosphere. The museum’s permanent collection includes over 1,000 works by more than 200 artists, including Montien Boonma, Lee Bul, and Anselm Kiefer.
DIB Bangkok aims to promote Thai and regional contemporary art globally, offering programs like curator-led tours, workshops, and global assemblies. The museum’s inaugural exhibition, “Invisible Presence,” features 40 artists exploring themes of visibility, space, and emotion.
