A taskforce recommends mandatory green building certification for Delhi projects beyond a specified built-up area, with certified projects eligible for up to 5% additional Floor Area Ratio (FAR). The Joint GovernmentโIndustry Taskforce, constituted by the Lieutenant Governor, aims to accelerate sustainable redevelopment in the national capital.
Harsh Vardhan Bansal, President, NAREDCO Delhi, said, “Delhiโs redevelopment potential remains underutilised due to fragmented regulations and overlapping jurisdictions. The taskforce recommendations, especially on green buildings and FAR incentives, provide a practical framework to align sustainability with economic feasibility.”
The taskforce also highlighted gaps in the Draft Master Plan for Delhi 2041, recommending integration of sustainability into future planning instruments. Implementation of the proposed measures is expected to reduce regulatory uncertainty, lower compliance risks, and align Delhiโs growth with global sustainability benchmarks. Mandatory green building certification for projects beyond a specified built-up area, up to 5% additional FAR for certified green projects, integration of sustainability into future planning instruments, and timely and uniform implementation across zones are key aspects of the recommendations.
