The Los Angeles City Council has unanimously approved Foster + Partners’ redevelopment plan for Television City, a 25-acre site in Fairfax, Los Angeles. The site, which features sound stages and production studios dedicated to CBS programming, will undergo a significant transformation.
The redevelopment, designed by Foster + Partners, will organize the campus into two distinct zones: content production and media operations. The original buildings, designed by William Pereira in the 1950s, will be preserved and updated, while new offices, stages, and retail space will be added to the property.
According to Foster + Partners, the goal is to create a greener, more community-oriented development. “Our Television City scheme reinvigorates Pereira’s landmark building and extends this approach across the whole site, with a series of vibrant new workspaces, pocket parks, and green rooftops that merge the experience of indoors and outdoors,” said David Summerfield, Head of Studio,ย Foster + Partners.
The development will feature buildings “flooded with natural light,” locally sourced low-carbon materials, and renewable energy. Inspired by the Los Angeles Case Study Houses, the project will be a “low-rise multi-modal campus” and “LA’s first all-electric studio.”
The redevelopment is expected to be completed before the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. Foster + Partners will act as project architect, while Rios created the master plan.
