The 19th International Architecture Exhibition, Biennale Architettura 2025, has concluded, showcasing innovative solutions to address climate change and urban challenges. Curated by Carlo Ratti, the event featured 758 architects, 303 projects, and 66 national participations, with a record 298,000 tickets sold and 17,584 visitors attending the pre-opening.
The exhibition explored the theme “Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective.”, highlighting the importance of collective intelligence in shaping the built environment. Carlo Ratti emphasized the need for architecture to adapt to climate change, stating, “The time has come for architecture to embrace adaptation: rethinking how we design for an altered world.”
The event included various national pavilions, such as the British Pavilion, which focused on ecology and repair, and the Italian Pavilion, which reflected on the theme of the sea. The exhibition also featured special projects, including “On Storage” at the Applied Arts Pavilion and “Margherissima” at Forte Marghera.
The Golden Lion for Best National Participation was awarded to the Kingdom of Bahrain for “Canicola”, while the Golden Lion for Best Participation went to Canal Cafรฉ by Diller Scofidio + Renfro. Donna Haraway received the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement, and Italo Rota was posthumously awarded the Special Golden Lion.ยน ยฒ
La Biennale di Venezia prioritized sustainability, obtaining carbon neutrality certification and promoting circular economy principles. The event aimed to create a lasting legacy in terms of sustainability, eliminating waste and regenerating natural systems.
