Durra Panel, an Australian company making fire-resistant and noise-dampening wall and ceiling panels from compressed straw, is considering Springfield for manufacturing. The company has met with Springfield’s Mayor Dominic J. Sarno and Chief Development Officer Timothy T. Sheehan, and plans to scout sites for a potential factory.
Durra Panel’s products result from eight decades of research originating in Sweden, using natural lignin in straw to bind without glues or adhesives. The company currently ships to the US from Victoria, Australia.
