UltraTech Cement Limited has commenced deployment of 45 electric heavy-duty trucks in partnership with Energy In Motion. The fleet will transport clinker from Kotputli Cement Works, UltraTechโs integrated manufacturing unit in Rajasthan, to its grinding units, Dadri Cement Works and Sikandarabad Cement Works located in the Delhi-NCR region. The route covers a 250-kilometre lead distance, traversing the states of Rajasthan, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. The deployment of these 45 electric trucks further strengthens UltraTechโs existing fleet of over 750 green trucks. This deployment follows the signing of a transport service contract between UltraTech, Energy In Motion and a logistics service provider.
The deployment is among the largest of its kind in the cement sector in northern India and marks a significant step in establishing the viability of long-haul electric heavy-duty trucking in the country. The fleet, comprising 45 electric trucks, each of 55-tonne capacity, is projected to reduce over 8,900 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually, displacing the equivalent of about 2.9 million litres of diesel per year. The initiative supports Indiaโs push towards zero-emission commercial transportation, a priority articulated by the Government of India across its electric vehicle and logistics policy frameworks. One of the largest electric heavy-duty trucking deployments in northern India, it directly addresses fuel import dependence and supply chain emissions.
Commenting on the development, K C Jhanwar, Managing Director, UltraTech Cement Limited, said, โIndiaโs ambition for clean, energy-secure transportation demands industry action, and UltraTech is committed to being at the forefront. This deployment reflects our belief that decarbonising logistics is as strategic as decarbonising production. By shifting long-haul clinker movement to electric, we are aligning with the countryโs stated objective to reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels, while building a supply chain that is resilient, responsible, and future-ready.โ The statement reinforces UltraTechโs position that logistics decarbonisation is integral to overall emissions reduction across operations.
UltraTech has been a pioneer in advancing sustainable transport in the cement sector. The company was among the first in India to introduce Green Logistics, deploying compressed natural gas trucks in 2021, liquefied natural gas trucks in 2022, and electric trucks in 2024. The Company continues to partner closely with its logistics providers to transition from diesel to cleaner fuels. As of financial year 2026, UltraTech operates 638 compressed natural gas trucks, 32 liquefied natural gas trucks, and 89 electric trucks across its various manufacturing units. The new 45 trucks add significant long-haul electric capacity to this portfolio.
The Kotputli to Delhi-NCR corridor is a high-volume clinker route critical to UltraTechโs northern operations. Moving this volume on electric trucks demonstrates operational feasibility for heavy loads over 250 kilometres and across multiple states. Energy In Motionโs partnership provides the technology and charging support required for consistent turnaround times. UltraTechโs scale allows it to aggregate demand, giving logistics partners confidence to invest in charging infrastructure and fleet expansion. This model can be replicated across other corridors as grid and charging capacity improves.
The environmental impact of the deployment is measurable and immediate. By displacing about 2.9 million litres of diesel per year, the 45-truck fleet cuts tailpipe emissions and reduces exposure to fuel price volatility. The projected 8,900 tonnes of carbon dioxide reduction annually contributes to UltraTechโs broader sustainability targets and aligns with national commitments on transport emissions. Green Logistics also improves air quality along freight corridors in Rajasthan, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, which face high particulate load from diesel trucking. UltraTechโs approach integrates emissions data into logistics planning.
UltraTech Cement Limited is the cement flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group. A 9.9 billion United States dollar building solutions company, UltraTech is the largest cement company globally by sales volumes outside of China. The Company has a total Grey Cement capacity of 205.5 million tonnes per annum and White Cement/Putty capacity of 3.5 million tonnes per annum. It is a signatory to the Global Cement and Concrete Association Climate Ambition 2050 and has committed to the Net Zero Concrete roadmap announced by Global Cement and Concrete Association. Logistics decarbonisation is a key pillar in that roadmap.
With over 750 green trucks now in operation, UltraTech is building one of Indiaโs most diversified low-emission fleets in heavy industry. The combination of compressed natural gas, liquefied natural gas, and electric trucks allows route-specific optimisation based on payload, distance, and fuel availability. The 16 June 2026 deployment shows long-haul electric trucking is moving from pilots to commercial scale in the cement sector. UltraTech will continue to work with vehicle makers, energy providers, and policymakers to expand charging networks and bring total cost of ownership in line with diesel.
