As roofing demands evolve across India’s diverse climates, Colorshine is emerging as a technology-led challenger. In this conversation, Savio Lainez, Vice President – Sales and Marketing, Colorshine, discusses the company’s advanced coatings, sustainability approach, manufacturing excellence and ambitious growth plans in India and abroad with Prasenjit Chakraborty.
Q.1. Colorshine has quickly established a presence in a competitive roofing market dominated by long-standing players. What core innovations or technologies set Colorshine’s roofing solutions apart, both in terms of performance and customer value?
We respect the legacy of other players but the market is now demanding a Climate-Ready Edge, and that is where Colorshine leads. Our rapid ascent is not due to size, but due to two fundamental technological advantages that deliver superior value.
The Ultimate Al-Zn Coating & Substrate: We utilize a premium Aluminium-Zinc alloy that provides far greater corrosion resistance than standard galvanized steel. We offer a minimum coating mass ranging from AZ-200 GSM to AZ-70 GSM. This composition provides 4–6 times better corrosion protection, ensuring a longer structural lifespan.
The Advanced 4-Coat Paint System: While others may use a standard paint coat system, we ensure a robust, modern 4-coat paint coating that offers superior paint adhesion and film integrity. This process allows us to provide a minimum paint film thickness of 35 microns on the top coat for our premium products. This thickness, combined with advanced topcoats like PVDF, SDP, SMP, RMP, and UDP, ensures best-in-class anti-fading and anti-corrosion properties, as validated by industry benchmarks like the 1000-hour Salt Spray Test (SST).
In terms of customer value, these innovations translate directly into industry-leading performance warranties, which reduce the total cost of ownership over the building’s life. We offer not just a product, but a promise of enduring quality and performance.
Q.2.Given India’s diverse climatic zones — from humid coasts to arid interiors — how does Colorshine engineer its roofing materials to ensure long-term durability, energy efficiency, and sustainability across these different environments?
Our approach is rooted in material science and customization, ensuring we don’t offer a one-size-fits-all solution:
Tailored Durability for Harsh Climates: For coastal, high-salinity zones or severely corrosive industrial environments, we recommend and manufacture products with higher Al-Zn coating mass, such as AZ-200 or AZ-180. The aluminium component in the coating forms a durable barrier against moisture and chlorides, significantly extending the life of the roof where it matters most.
Engineered for Energy Efficiency: The aluminium content in our Al-Zn coating naturally gives our coils high heat-reflective properties. Furthermore, we advise and supply lighter color shades in our color-coated range for hot, arid regions. These lighter colors reflect a higher percentage of solar radiation, which can decrease the interior roof temperature by 3–5 degrees Celsius compared to conventional metal roofing. This reduces the need for air conditioning, leading to substantial energy savings for the end-user.
Sustainability through Longevity: By engineering our products to last longer and perform better under extreme conditions, we reduce the frequency of roof replacement. Our robust PVDF/SDP/SMP/RMP/UDP topcoats maintain their aesthetic and protective qualities for years, making Colorshine a choice for long-term sustainability.
Q.3.What are Colorshine’s future growth plans in India and abroad?
Colorshine is in an aggressive growth phase driven by the ‘Make in India’ and infrastructure momentum.
Our primary goal is to achieve 1.0 (MTPA) of coated steel production capacity by 2030. To achieve this:
Domestic Expansion: We are strategically expanding our manufacturing footprint beyond our base in Andhra Pradesh. This includes commissioning two new state-of-the-art facilities: one in Nagpur, Maharashtra (Central India), expected to be operational by 2028, and another in the Eastern Region of India by 2030. These strategic locations will significantly enhance our national reach and supply chain efficiency. Additionally, we are also coming up with a new Color – Coating line in Gudur with a planned capacity of 120000 TPA.
International Ambition: Our focus remains on consolidating our position as a leader in the quality-driven Indian market first. However, the quality, standards, and technical specifications of our products are designed to meet global benchmarks, including compliance with JIS, ASTM and EU standards. We are regular exporters to Europe and multiple international markets worldwide, amplifying Colorshine’s global footprint.
Q.4. How does Colorshine make sure its roofing products stay reliable — from manufacturing to installation and after-sales service?
Reliability is built into our entire value chain through three core pillars:
Manufacturing Excellence: Our facility features a fully integrated process, from our new Cold Rolling Mill (CRM) complex to our high-tech Continuous Color Coating Line (CCCL). We adhere to stringent quality management systems, holding both BIS and ISO certifications, ensuring consistent product quality across every batch.
Unwavering Traceability & Digital Service: Our confidence in our product is now backed by a commitment to digital transparency. We recently launched a mobile application to issue digital warranties for all our warranty-backed products. This is a game-changer. It provides customers with instant, verifiable, and secure proof of warranty, eliminating physical paperwork. This is just the first step, as we are rapidly developing this app into a complete digital ecosystem for all our stakeholders—enhancing material tracking, technical support, and the speed of our after-sales service.
Industry-Leading Assurance: To uphold our commitment to long-term performance, every coil and product is marked with non-erasable video jet printing that records essential batch details. This system ensures that from the point of manufacture to the final installation site, the customer can verify the authenticity and certified specifications of the material they are receiving. This comprehensive approach, backed by our 15-year warranty on Signature and 9-year warranty on Spectrum, ensures complete peace of mind for the end customer.
Q.5. How is Colorshine designing its roofing products to meet architects’ and builders’ demand for aesthetic and sustainable solutions?
Modern architecture requires materials that combine high performance with design flexibility. Colorshine addresses this through innovation in our finishes and our commitment to the environment:
Aesthetic Versatility: We offer an extensive palette of colors and, notably, we have introduced premium finishes that redefine the visual appeal of steel. Our Printed Steel variants, including realistic Wood Finishes, and our sophisticated Wrinkle Finish coils, allow architects to design with high-durability coated steel that mimics the texture and warmth of traditional materials, providing an design elevated, unique façade or roof.
Sustainable Material Philosophy: Our products are inherently sustainable. The base Al-Zn coated steel is recyclable, supporting the circular economy in construction. Furthermore, we are committed to environmental responsibility in our processes, utilizing high-solids, low-VOC paint formulations that comply with strict environmental standards while maintaining superior film performance.
By offering a blend of PVDF-level performance, low-VOC sustainability, and high-end aesthetic finishes, we provide architects and builders with the ‘Green Steel’ solutions they need to build smart, beautiful, and future-proof structures.
With this balanced approach to aesthetics, performance, and sustainability, Colorshine reinforces its commitment to delivering high-quality steel products that look better, perform better, and last longer.
