PILA, an architecture studio based in Athens and New York, has released its design for a new educational building at Anatolia College in Thessaloniki, Greece. The project is part of the institution’s long-term campus master plan and aims to accommodate evolving academic needs while incorporating sustainable design strategies.
The building’s design emphasizes integration with the campus’s natural landscape, featuring outdoor learning and gathering spaces, including open-air classrooms, relaxation areas, and an amphitheater. The structure is conceived as a porous, freestanding building that promotes continuity between indoor and outdoor environments.
The building program includes flexible amphitheaters, a media center, classrooms, and multi-purpose areas, supporting different modes of learning. The exterior design features a system of rotating vertical panels that modulate light and shadow, optimizing daylight penetration and minimizing glare and heat gain.
Key Features:
– Integration with the campus’s natural landscape
– Outdoor learning and gathering spaces
– Flexible and adaptable spaces for different modes of learning
– Sustainable design strategies
– Rotating vertical panels for optimized daylight penetration
