A student team from BMS College of Architecture, Design and Planning and BMS College of Engineering has won the grand prize at Solar Decathlon India (SDI), a national competition promoting net-zero energy-water and climate-resilient solutions for the building sector. The team, led by BMS College of Architecture, Design and Planning, proposed a versatile and affordable modular system that drives net-zero targets.
The team pitched their solution to a grand jury at the Infosys campus in Mysuru, where six student teams competed in the finals. The jury praised the team’s solution for its promise and investment worthiness. The competition, which featured 175 teams comprising over 2,100 students from 150 academic institutions, aimed to foster innovative solutions for sustainable building practices.
The event also included a Climate Smart Innovation Exhibition, where industry innovators showcased products and solutions addressing climate change mitigation and adaptation. Lambert Technovation Pvt. Ltd. was declared the winner of the Climate Smart Innovation Award 2025 for its modular, chemical-free reactor that transforms wastewater treatment for buildings.
The Solar Decathlon India challenge is conducted by the Indian Institute for Human Settlements and the Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy, supported by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Over 50 organisations offered internships and early career opportunities to the SDI finalists during the career fair.
