Otis Sweeps India’s Smart Lift and Mobility Awards with Four Wins, Including Project of the Year

Otis India, a subsidiary of Otis Worldwide Corporation (NYSE: OTIS) – the global leader in elevators, escalators, and moving walkways manufacturing – emerges as a key victor in India’s Smart Lift and Mobility Awards 2024. Garnering accolades in various categories, Otis clinches the esteemed Project of the Year title, alongside recognition for exceptional contributions in modernization, maintenance, and sustainability efforts.

Project of the Year: Statue of Unity
The 135-meter-tall Statue of Unity in Gujarat, India, is the world’s tallest statue. The two Otis SkyRise® elevators inside the statue move thousands of daily visitors to the viewing gallery.

Best Modernized Elevator: Wipro SJP
The six elevators at the Wipro corporate office in Bengaluru were fully modernized by Otis. The addition of an Otis CompassPlus® destination management system and six-car grouping has reduced passengers’ waiting time. The Otis ReGenTM regenerative drives capture the energy created by elevators moving through the building and feed it back into the building’s electrical grid for use by other systems. Energy efficiency is increased by up to 75% compared to conventional hydraulic units, helping lower overall building operating costs and deliver annual savings to building owners and tenants.

Best Heritage Elevator: Raj Bhavan, Kolkata
Otis installed the first elevator in India in 1892 at Raj Bhavan, the official residence of the Governor of West Bengal. The elevator has been preserved in its original highly ornate birdcage form and continues to serve the heritage building today. It has been lightly modernized twice.

Best Green Elevator: Kempegowda International Airport T2, Bengaluru
The new Terminal 2 at Kempegowda International Airport welcomes around 25 million passengers a year. It is the largest terminal in the world to be pre-certified with a platinum rating by the U.S. Green Building Council, with 100 percent usage of renewable energy. Otis India helped support these efforts through its commitment to delivering smart technologies and energy-efficient elevators and escalators, integrated with building management systems, to enhance passenger comfort and contribute to cost savings. To meet the high demands of this project, Otis India supplied a total of 107 units: 29 escalators, 50 elevators, two dumb waiters and 26 moving walks (travelators).

Speaking on this, Sebi Joseph, President, Otis India, said, “Otis elevator and escalator systems shape cities and transform how we live in a taller, faster and smarter world. These Awards are a testament to the passion and dedication that every member of the Otis India team brings to their work each and every day, and to the support and trust of our customers and passengers.”
