The Al Khair Mosque project in Salalah, Oman, is set to become the world’s first 3D-printed mosque, blending modern technology with traditional Islamic architecture. Designed by Adi Architects in collaboration with Innotech Oman, the mosque will showcase sustainable design principles while preserving cultural identity.
The mosque’s design is inspired by Omani heritage, featuring a spiral ribbon concept that symbolizes unity and continuity. The architectural vision includes an oval prayer hall with a central skylight, green spaces, and shaded walkways. The minaret’s design draws inspiration from Omani identity, featuring sweeping lines reminiscent of the Omani sail and traditional incense burner.
The Al Khair Mosque will incorporate advanced technologies to minimize energy consumption, utilize active energy-harvesting technologies, and maximize natural lighting, aiming for a near net-zero operational footprint. The project will also use local and recycled materials, reducing construction waste by up to 60% compared to traditional methods.
The 3D printing technology will enable precise control over the structure’s form and complexity, reducing overall project costs by up to 30%. This innovative approach will serve as a benchmark for future infrastructure projects in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region.
The Al Khair Mosque project reflects Oman’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and cultural preservation. The mosque’s design and construction will not only serve as a place of worship but also as a symbol of Oman’s rich cultural heritage.
