Stage one of the construction of Sydney Children’s Hospital and Minderoo Children’s Comprehensive Cancer Centre in Randwick has reached completion. The new 12-storey, USD 658 million Randwick building features a colourful facade and is a key component of the Randwick Health and Innovation Precinct. The precinct integrates clinical treatment, research, and education facilities.
The building was designed by Billard Leece Partnership (BLP) in collaboration with Health Infrastructure, the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network, and the Children’s Cancer Institute. Aspect Studios handled the landscape design. The new facility will house a pediatric cancer centre, combining clinical care and translational research. The design follows a biophilic approach, wrapping around a central courtyard to provide access to daylight and fresh air.
The building features landscaped terraces, rooftop gardens, and outdoor spaces to promote connection to nature and wellbeing for patients and staff. According to Tara Veldman, Managing Director and Health Lead at BLP, “Children heal in hospitals that have been purpose-designed for them, especially when their full spectrum of needs, including clinical, emotional and social, are met.”
External works, fitout, and operational commissioning are ongoing, with the building set to open to patients in late 2025.
