National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC) is preparing to undertake housing and real‑estate projects in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, according to Satish Chandra, IAS (Retd), Chairman of the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) of Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking at a panel discussion on RERA reforms in the housing sector during the National Urban and Real Estate Development Conclave‑2026, Chandra said that RERA J&K is in talks with multiple agencies to secure approvals for several real‑estate projects in both the Jammu and Srinagar regions, with parcels of land currently being identified.
Chandra noted that NBCC plans to actively participate in constructing these housing projects once the details are finalized, though he did not disclose further specifics. He added that RERA has been allotted office space in both Srinagar and Jammu to process and approve real‑estate projects, with five projects already under review. There is considerable enthusiasm for developing such projects under RERA regulations, signaling a potential boost to organized housing in the region.
The initiative aligns with the government’s broader push to expand formal, regulated housing in Jammu and Kashmir, aiming to provide transparent, quality‑driven developments for residents. By involving a central public‑sector enterprise like NBCC, authorities hope to leverage its construction expertise and project‑management capabilities to deliver timely, compliant housing stock. Stakeholders anticipate that once land parcels are secured and approvals granted, NBCC will move quickly to start construction, contributing to economic activity and addressing housing demand in the Union Territory.
