Lina Ghotmeh Architecture has designed the Play Earth Park Naturing Forest Observatory in Nano City, Toyama Prefecture, Japan. The project, part of a 100-hectare nature-themed park, aims to create a seamless blend between architecture and nature. The observatory and cottages will be designed to encourage exploration, experimentation, and connection with the forest.
According to Lina Ghotmeh, “Architecture is rebuilding from history, comprehending culture, context, and nature to craft futuristic, sustainable creations.” The design follows biophilic and regenerative principles, providing a tactile experience for visitors. The observatory features a spiraling wooden staircase leading to scenic views of the surrounding landscape, while the cottages offer intimate spaces with large panoramic windows.
The design strategy focuses on creating a sensory experience, with the observatory evoking the form of a towering tree composed of interwoven slender wooden elements. The cottages, inspired by fruits and nuts, feature organic shapes and tactile materials, inviting rest and joy.
Lina Ghotmeh said, “Forest is not just for a glimpse, but to experience the most intimate connection with the landscape.” The project aims to transform visitors’ perceptions of the environment and encourage a deeper connection with nature.
