Innovative Layout Blends Seamlessly with Maharashtra’s Dramatic Landscape
Kharghar Valley Golf Course in Navi Mumbai, India, has reopened as an 18-hole layout, showcasing Vijit Nandrajog’s innovative design that harmonizes with the region’s natural beauty. The course, formerly a nine-hole layout, now features undulating greens and rolling fairways that mirror the surrounding hills.
Design Highlights
Nandrajog’s design maximizes the site’s dramatic ridges, valleys, and rocky outcrops, creating a natural extension of the valley. The layout incorporates natural water channels, adding a layer of strategy for golfers. Ponds and streams hold and divert water across the course, ensuring playability despite heavy monsoons.
The redesign was necessitated by restrictions on land use, leading to a complete rerouting of the existing nine holes. Nandrajog tweaked his design to accommodate rocky terrain, creating a challenging and fun par-four hole.
Sustainability Focus
The design prioritizes natural hydrology, retaining and creating drainage channels that move water while adding strategy to the game. Underground drainage pipes and large ponds collect and store rainwater for irrigation.
