Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has introduced a new earthquake-resistant building design featuring advanced damping technology. This innovative design can withstand tremors up to magnitude 8.8, marking a significant step forward in the country’s disaster-resilient infrastructure.
The technology enables multi-storey buildings to remain stable during powerful earthquakes, and its implementation in the BMKG’s own headquarters in Jakarta has already proven successful. The agency hopes this initiative will set a new standard for construction in high-risk seismic zones and inspire wider adoption.
The new building design boasts several impressive features, including the ability to withstand tremors up to magnitude 8.8, enabling multi-storey buildings to remain stable during powerful earthquakes, and having already been successfully implemented in the BMKG’s headquarters in Jakarta, which houses the nation’s Multi-hazard Early Warning System.
