MTM – Made to Measure: A New Benchmark in Customizable DesignHerzog & de Meuron, the renowned Swiss architecture firm, has collaborated with UniFor to launch “MTM – Made to Measure,” a cutting-edge furniture collection that embodies the perfect blend of versatility, sustainability, and style. This innovative collection, set to debut at Milan Design Week 2026, features a range of products, including benches, sofas, coffee tables, and a ping pong table, all designed to bring people together.
The Design Philosophy Behind MTMThe MTM collection is built around a unique structural system, comprising solid, angled frames that slot together in three dimensions, creating a sturdy yet slender framework. This design approach allows for incredible versatility, enabling the pieces to be adapted for length and scale. The upholstered elements are clad in cork leather, adding a touch of warmth and texture to the collection.Sustainable Materials and CustomizationThe architects were introduced to cork while working on the Pérez Art Museum in Miami and were drawn to its texture, feel, and potential for customization.
The material palette also includes structural elements in solid wood and table tops in travertine, coloured glass, and polished steel. According to Ascan Mergenthaler, Senior Partner, Herzog & de Meuron, “The strength of the series lies in its versatility.”A Collection for Social InteractionThe MTM collection is designed to bring people together, whether it’s around a large work table, a group of sofas, or a playful gathering around a ping pong table. The pieces encourage exchange and shared time, making them perfect for public spaces or homes.
