Korean Firms Aim to Revolutionize Modular Housing with Innovative Elevator Tech
GS Engineering & Construction (GS E&C) and Hyundai Elevator have signed an MOU to develop elevator technologies for modular housing. The partnership aims to advance modular multi-family housing business by creating optimized elevator designs for conventional and modular structures.
Key Highlights
The “modular elevator” is pre-assembled at the factory and installed on-site in modular units, minimizing welding work and ensuring consistent quality. This approach reduces high-elevation work by up to 90%, improving safety and construction continuity. The elevator installation process is expected to be shortened by up to 80%.
The technology will be applied to GS E&C’s Siheung Geomo A-1 Block project, a 14-story steel modular apartment building. The partnership aims to promote process standardization and market expansion.
GS E&C CEO Heo Yoon-hong said, “Combining our technological capabilities will elevate productivity, safety, and quality at construction sites.”
