Goa has outlined an ambitious vision for sustainable and heritage-led infrastructure development, positioning itself as a model for climate-resilient urban growth at the National Conference on Goan Architecture & Sustainability held in New Delhi.
Organised by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) at The Leelaย Palace, the conference brought together policymakers, architects, urban planners, sustainability experts, multilateral institutions and diplomatic representatives to discuss the future of environmentally responsible development.
The event was inaugurated by Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade. Addressing delegates, Sawant said Goa remains committed to developing world-class infrastructure while preserving its architectural heritage, environmental assets and cultural identity.
The conference featured four thematic sessions focusing on contextual architecture, heritage conservation, energy-efficient buildings and climate-smart construction materials. Experts from organisations including TERI, INTACH, the Charles Correa Foundation, GRIHA Council, the World Bank, IFC, Centre for Science and Environment and Auroville Earth Institute participated in discussions on balancing urbanisation with sustainability.
Representatives from the European Union, Royal Danish Embassy and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands also contributed international perspectives on green infrastructure and resilient urban planning.
A key focus of the conference was the integration of policy frameworksframeworks, innovative technologies and collaborative approaches to address climate challenges while ensuring sustainable economic growth. Delegates also explored strategies for preserving heritage assets amid rising development pressures.
Alongside the conference, GSIDC organised an exhibition of GoVAN products showcasing local innovation, entrepreneurship and craftsmanship.
The event concluded with a set of recommendations aimed at advancing sustainable infrastructure, green building practices and heritage conservation. The deliberations reinforced Goa’s efforts to position itself as a national leader in sustainable development and climate-resilient infrastructure planning through knowledge sharing, innovation and multi-stakeholder collaboration.
