The European Union’s LIFE Programme was showcased at Building Green 2025, a leading event for green construction and sustainable built environment, held in Copenhagen, Denmark. The event focused on “scaling and sufficiency” in construction, highlighting the need to balance meeting societal needs with environmental responsibilities.
Ten LIFE projects from six EU Member States showcased innovative sustainable construction and renovation solutions, including cooling roof tiles, water-saving bathrooms, upcycling, and energy retrofits. These projects demonstrated practical answers to the pressing need for low-impact, scalable construction.
LIFE COSME Reno, for example, is transforming existing homes into energy-efficient, affordable, and liveable spaces, while LIFE ReUseWater has developed a shower that cuts water use by 90% and heating by 80%. Another project, More LIFE to LEVELs, is gathering practical data from real-world building projects to demonstrate the feasibility of sustainable buildings across the EU.
The event also highlighted EU funding opportunities and partnerships, with around €300 million invested in 75 LIFE sustainable construction and renovation projects since 2021.
