Four visionary designers are set to highlight the beauty and potential of No.1 Common hardwood at 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen, June 18-20, 2025. Organized by the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC), the exhibition No.1 Common at the Material Matters fair will feature works by Andu Masebo, Anna Maria รfstedal Eng, Daniel Schofield, and Kia Utzon-Frank.
The project challenges designers to embrace “cabinet grade” hardwoodโoften overlooked for its natural variationsโand demonstrate its value as a sustainable and aesthetically rich material. No.1 Common hardwood, which contains the same quality wood as higher grades but in smaller cuts, was traditionally used for cabinetry and flooring but is underutilized today.
Roderick Wiles, AHEC Regional Director, emphasized the importance of maximizing timber use. “With forests containing twice as much timber as 50 years ago, we need to appreciate the full potential of this natural resource,” he said.
The exhibition aims to redefine perceptions of material quality, advocating for broader utilization of natural resources to promote sustainability. Visitors can experience these innovative designs at Ground Floor, Gammel Dok, Strandgade 27B, Copenhagen.
