H&P Architects Creates Bamboo-Inspired Pavilion in Hanoi
H&P Architects has designed the Ashui Pavilion, a stunning glazed ceramic tile structure in Hanoi, Vietnam, that reimagines the city’s relationship with water. The pavilion’s curved, bamboo-like design features a hemispherical volume composed of closely spaced ribs, clad in golden glazed tiles that shift with daylight.
Design Inspiration
The tiles reference bamboo joints, a familiar element in Vietnamese construction, and create a continuous textured surface. The structure’s repetition and rhythm evoke a sense of growth and movement, linking material choice to a broader environmental narrative.
Environmental Intent
The pavilion responds to Hanoi’s landscape, where lakes and canals have given way to paved surfaces. By placing water at the center of its spatial experience, the structure draws attention to the city’s lost water surfaces.
