The International Union of Architects (UIA) has announced the theme “Design for Strength” for the 2025 World Architecture Day, to be celebrated on Monday, October 6, 2025. This theme encourages architects to adopt strategies that strengthen the built environment’s resilience, adaptability, and rebuildability, rather than focusing on temporary solutions. The UIA emphasizes that architecture should promote equity, continuity, and resilience, particularly during critical times.

The built environment should reflect durability, resilience, and cultural sensitivity to effectively support communities. The built environment is crucial in protecting and rebuilding communities after human-made or natural disasters. Designing for strength includes the ability to repair, restore, and adapt the built environment using environmentally responsible materials and methods.
To increase public awareness, the UIA invites architects to explore the issue of “Design for Strength” through various programs, including webinars, exhibitions, and talks. The UIA also encourages its Member Sections to share best practices and knowledge in resilience-focused architecture, present examples of creative and inclusive design for crisis-affected areas, and support architectural education.
