advocacy.Retired architect Techi Gubin was conferred the Padma Shri by President Droupadi Murmu at the Civil Investiture Ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, recognising his contributions to architecture, public service and cultural preservation in Arunachal Pradesh.
A graduate of Chandigarh College of Architecture, Gubin joined the Arunachal Pradesh Public Works Department in 1990 and went on to serve nearly four decades before retiring as Chief Architect. Throughout his career, he contributed to the planning and development of public infrastructure in the frontier state, blending architectural expertise with grassroots development.
Beyond architecture, Gubin played an active role in preserving indigenous heritage and promoting tribal welfare. Through organisations such as Arunachal Vikas Parishad and Nyishi Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society, he worked to protect the Donyi-Polo faith and strengthen cultural identity in the Northeast.
He also led outreach programmes to remote border villages along China, Myanmar and Bhutan, highlighting infrastructure and connectivity challenges in frontier regions. His Padma Shri honour reflects a unique career that combined architecture, administration, social leadership and cultural advocacy.
