Adani Airport Holdings Limited has unveiled an ambitious ₹20,000 crore Airport City development programme spanning more than 655 acres across six airports in five states, marking one of India’s largest airport-led urban infrastructure initiatives.
The project, spearheaded by Adani Airport City Limited, will deliver approximately 22 million square feet of mixed-use development in its first phase across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Jaipur and Guwahati. Nearly 70% of the planned investment will be concentrated in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, including around 440 acres across Mumbai and Navi Mumbai airports.
The Airport City model aims to transform airports into integrated economic hubs by combining hospitality, retail, commercial offices, entertainment, convention centres and public spaces within walkable, transit-oriented urban districts seamlessly connected to airports, metro systems and city transport networks.
Speaking at the launch, Jeet Adani said airports globally have evolved into engines of commerce, tourism and urban development, and India’s rapidly growing aviation market presents a significant opportunity to create economic value beyond aviation operations.
Inspired by internationally renowned airport districts such as Singapore Changi Airport, Dubai International Airport, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and Incheon International Airport, the initiative seeks to position airports as catalysts for investment, employment generation and urban transformation.
As part of the programme, Adani Airports has already signed hotel management agreements with IHG Hotels & Resortsfor five luxury and premium hotels, including the introduction of the Kimpton brand to India. The company is also collaborating with leading domestic and international partners across hospitality, retail, food and beverage, and entertainment sectors.
Sustainability remains a central component of the development strategy, with all Airport City projects receiving LEED Gold pre-certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, reflecting commitments to energy efficiency, sustainable design, walkability and environmentally responsible urban planning.
The large-scale initiative positions Adani Airports at the forefront of India’s airport-led development movement, aiming to create integrated urban ecosystems that drive long-term economic growth, tourism expansion and real estate development around key aviation hubs.
