GT Bharathi (GTB) has secured a licence from the World Trade Centers Association (WTCA) to develop a World Trade Center (WTC) in Chengalpattu district, Tamil Nadu, marking a significant addition to South India’s commercial real estate and business infrastructure landscape.
The licence places GT Bharathi among a select group of developers globally authorised to operate under the WTC brand, which spans more than 300 World Trade Centers across nearly 100 countries and territories. The project is expected to strengthen Chengalpattu’s position as an emerging business and investment destination in Tamil Nadu.
According to the company, the WTC will anchor a proposed 150-acre integrated mixed-use township with an estimated development value of โน7,000 crore. The masterplan envisions a combination of commercial offices, retail spaces, data centres, residential developments, educational institutions and hospitality assets.
Commenting on the development, Bharat Kanti Doshi, Chairman, GT Bharathi, said the licence represents both an opportunity and a responsibility to create a globally benchmarked commercial destination. He noted that the project aims to attract international business activity to Tamil Nadu while generating long-term economic value for the region.
The township is planned to be developed in phases over approximately a decade. At full build-out, GT Bharathi estimates the project could generate more than 100,000 jobs, creating a substantial employment and economic multiplier effect.
Arun Bharathi Arunachalam, Managing Director, GT Bharathi, said the vision is to create a self-sustaining live-work-learn ecosystem centred around the WTC business park, integrating commercial, residential, educational and hospitality components within a single destination.
For the hospitality sector, the development is expected to create opportunities for branded hotels, convention facilities and business travel demand as the region attracts corporate occupiers, technology companies and global enterprises. Located within Tamil Nadu’s expanding growth corridor and benefiting from connectivity to Chennai’s IT and industrial hubs, Chengalpattu is increasingly emerging as a strategic destination for large-scale mixed-use developments and international investment.
