SpaceMatters has completed the 16th CM Rise (now Sandipani Vidyalaya) School for the Government of Madhya Pradesh, marking a significant milestone in the state’s school transformation program. The school is designed to be contextual, climate-responsive, and child-centric, delivered within tight budgets and timelines. As part of the first-phase pilot, SpaceMatters designed 16 schools across Bhopal, Ashok Nagar, and Dhar, spanning over 2 million sq ft of built area. Each school prioritizes universal access, inclusive spaces, and local knowledge systems to support focus, productivity, and overall well-being.
The design approach focused on optimal daylight, cross-ventilation, and thermal comfort, with features like shaded outdoor learning areas and climate-responsive courtyards. The schools are flexible and welcoming, doubling as community hubs after hours. Native planting, water conservation, and a practical material palette contribute to a resilient and welcoming landscape. “We believe learning happens everywhere, not only in the classroom,” said Ar. This project sets a new benchmark for public education infrastructure in India, addressing infrastructural deficits and promoting equitable, uplifting spaces for every child. SpaceMatters continues to define an interdisciplinary culture of practice, with expertise in architecture, interiors, urban design, and more. “We approach every project with a balance of creativity, technical rigour, and experiential sensitivity,” shared Moulshri.
