The Indian Institute of Interior Designers (IIID) is urging the government to regulate the interior designing profession through an Act. According to Jignesh Modi, President of IIID, the institute aims to establish a council that enrolls members based on their educational qualifications in interior designing.
Currently, interior designing is an unregulated profession, with about 50% of IIID’s members being associate members who are qualified interior designers. Modi emphasized the need for education to be a qualification, stating that the government should recognize the importance of professional interior designers.
The IIID plans to submit a report to the government by mid-January, highlighting regulations in other countries and advocating for a similar framework in India. Modi stressed that with India’s rapid urbanization and growth, it’s essential to establish standards for the interior designing profession.
