The World Architecture Festival (WAF) has shortlisted three projects by Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering, for presentation at the 2025 Festival. WAF, the worldโs largest architecture awards program, honors innovative and inspirational projects across multiple disciplines.
This yearโs event will mark WAFโs first edition in the United States, taking place at the Miami Beach Convention Center from November 12 to 14, 2025. The Festival selected 235 completed buildings, 157 future projects, and 64 interior design works from more than 780 submissions representing a wide range of sectors, including healthcare, education, hospitality, sports, and culture.
Stantec has a strong track record at the Festival, having presented projects such as the Hamdan Bin Rashid Cancer Hospital at the 2024 WAF in Singapore, FortWhyte Alive Buffalo Crossing Visitor Centre and The Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital at the 2023 WAF, and the University of Lethbridge Isttaniokaksini / Science Commonsโdesigned with KPMB Architectsโat the 2022 WAF in Portugal.
For 2025, Stantecโs shortlisted projects include:
The Cambridge Memorial Hospital Redevelopment in Ontario (Completed Buildings โ Health category), which expands and renovates the regional health center with a 230,000-square-foot addition. The design integrates new and existing structures using local stone masonry inspired by historic mills, reinforcing the connection to the cityโs heritage.
The Dubai Diabetes Centre in the United Arab Emirates (Future Projects โ Health category), a 60,000-square-foot facility that will double the centerโs capacity. The designโs โwalled gardenโ concept creates a balance between privacy and openness, supporting holistic care and research.
The Red River College Polytechnic Interdisciplinary Health & Community Services Simulation Centre in Manitoba (Interiors โ Education category), which delivers immersive, simulation-based learning for healthcare students. Its design encourages collaboration and cultural understanding through specialized simulation suites and distinct spatial thresholds that separate real and simulated environments.
