Abramson Architects has merged with global design firm Perkins&Will, combining their Los Angeles and San Diego studios into a single Southern California practice. The merger, finalized recently, establishes a new leadership structure with Trevor Abramson, founder of Abramson Architects, becoming managing director. The combined practice will operate under the Perkins&Will name and employ over 100 staff in San Diego and Los Angeles.
The merger brings together two firms with complementary skills and experiences, committed to making a positive impact on communities through great design. Lindsey Peckinpaugh, president of Perkins&Will, said, “This is a coming-together of two deeply like-minded firms with complementary skills and experiences, both of whom are committed to making a positive impact on communities through great design.”
The combined practice will focus on expanding its reach and deepening its impact on the people and places it serves. Marco Marraccini, design director of the combined practice, said, “This is not just about getting bigger. Itโs about elevating our potential, expanding our reach, and deepening the impact we have on the people and places we serve.”
The firms have a specific emphasis on affordable housing, with Perkins&Will having expertise in designing affordable permanent supportive housing complexes like Toyon Gardens in Gardena, California. Abramson adds a deep background in adaptive reuse, including the conversion of historic warehouses in LAโs Arts District into retail and creative offices.
Trevor Abramson, founder of Abramson Architects and managing director of the combined practice, said, “Our combined strengths and complementary skills empower us to pursue more complex, ambitious projects and positively impact community on both the urban and human scale.” Michael Williams of Perkins&Will will serve as operations director, alongside Abramson and Marraccini.
