Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s capital, has been designated as a UNESCO Creative City of Design, joining the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN). This recognition highlights the city’s commitment to design innovation and its potential for urban and economic transformation.
The UCCN focuses on eight creative fields, including Architecture, Crafts and Folk Art, Design, Film, Gastronomy, Literature, Media Arts, and Music. With this addition, Malaysia now has three UCCN member cities: Kuala Lumpur (Design), Kuching (Gastronomy), and Ipoh (Music).
Kuala Lumpur’s designation is attributed to its efforts in heritage conservation, public space development, design education, and creative events. The city’s master plan, KLCCD, addresses urban challenges and promotes inclusive cultural spaces.
