Global workplace ergonomics leader extends its circularity initiative to India, advancing sustainability with refurbished chairs now available to Indian customers
Humanscale, the New Yorkheadquartered global workplace ergonomics leader, has announced the introduction of its ‘Refreshed’ circularity programme in India through S Cube Ergonomics Pvt Ltd., its India manufacturing and distribution partner. Described by Humanscale as a first-of-its-kind initiative, ‘Refreshed’ brings its established global approach to circularity to Indian customers, offering selected refurbished ergonomic chairs as an alternative to buying new furniture while supporting responsible resource use and waste reduction.
‘Refreshed’ is a circular take-back and refurbishment initiative that extends the life of selected Humanscale ergonomic products through professional restoration, servicing and quality assurance. Rather than discarding premium ergonomic furniture at the end of its first lifecycle, the programme gives products a second or even third life, helping organisations reduce waste and support their sustainability goals.
Each ‘Refreshed’ chair undergoes a comprehensive refurbishment process, including detailed inspection, professional cleaning and sanitisation, functional testing, repairs and replacement of worn components with approved parts where required. A final quality assurance check is conducted before delivery, helping ensure dependable performance while extending the product’s useful life.
Humanscale has already put its circularity philosophy into practice through initiatives with leading organisations in India. With Wells Fargo, TESCO and NVIDIA, Humanscale has collected used chairs to ensure they are managed responsibly at the end of their first life, rather than being discarded as waste. In initiatives involving VISA, TESCO,PayPal and Pegasystems, used chairs have been taken back, refurbished and returned to the workplace, extending their useful life and reducing the need for new resources.
Together, these initiatives demonstrate how circularity can translate sustainability objectives into practical action. By keeping existing products in use, refurbishment helps retain the value of resources already invested in manufacturing. Thoughtful product design and responsible material selection further support maintenance, reuse and longer product life.
The programme’s current collection includes three refurbished Humanscale best-selling chairs: the Freedom Headrest, Freedom Task and Liberty. Their availability in India gives customers an alternative purchasing option that combines ergonomic design with a more resource-conscious approach to workplace furniture. More award-winning Humanscale ergonomic workplace products including task chairs, height-adjustable desks and monitor arms would be added soon.
Alastair Stubbs, Country Director India, Humanscale, said: “Refreshed reflects Humanscale’s belief that good design should deliver lasting value while minimising environmental impact. By bringing this circularity programme to India, we are extending our commitment to sustainability and demonstrating how thoughtful product design and reuse can help move the workplace furniture industry towards a more circular future.”
Sathish Nandagopal, Founder and Director, S Cube Ergonomics Pvt Ltd. said: “Choosing a Refreshed product helps reduce waste, conserve valuable materials and extend the life of premium furniture–supporting a circular economy without compromising on quality. You are not buying a second-hand product; you are investing in a fully renewed Refreshed product, restored through Humanscale’s stringent refurbishment protocol to meet the same performance, safety and ergonomic standards as a new product.”
