JIG Studio is set to open its doors in London on October 16, 2025, bringing Brazilian design to the heart of the city. The design collective will serve as a gallery, retail destination, and cultural platform for Brazilian creatives, showcasing the country’s rich heritage and evolving aesthetic.
Founded by London-based architect Richard Penman and Brazilian-born design strategist Grace Nemeth, JIG Studio debuts with over 35 works spanning textiles, wood, ceramics, and mixed media. The inaugural collection features seven leading and emerging Brazilian designers, including Alex Rocca, Humberto da Marta, and Ronald Sasson.
The studio aims to celebrate the emotional power of Brazilian design through objects that hold memory, meaning, and cultural depth. According to Nemeth, “Brazil is a hotbed of design talent โ incredibly underrepresented in the UK and Europe. We set up JIG Studio to provide a platform for this talent.”
The featured designers showcase a range of styles and techniques, from traditional woodworking to high-tech production and artisanal craftsmanship. Some of the participating designers include:
– Alex Rocca: Textile artist and visual storyteller exploring themes of ancestry, culture, and Afro-Brazilian religion
– Humberto da Marta: Creator of pieces from paper, pulp, and ceramics, drawing on manual construction methods and collaborations with local artisans
– Atelier Gustavo Bittencourt: Investigates materiality through traditional woodworking fused with contemporary forms
– Bonni (Erik Bonissato): Crafts sculptural pieces like the Esfera Lamp and Sphere Sideboard, blending technical precision with artistic elegance
– Origin: Fuses high-tech production with artisanal techniques in wood to hand-craft furniture that embodies Brazilian culture
– Ovo: Presents designs such as the Luminรกria Vela and Stool Rio
– Ronald Sasson: Known for minimalist, expressive furniture with a fine art sensibility
The gallery’s collections will be refreshed seasonally, offering curated edits and exhibitions.
