Schemes by Foster + Partners and David Chipperfield Architects are among 52 projects shortlisted for the 2026 RIBA International Awards for Excellence. The projects, spanning five continents and 18 countries, showcase design tackling global challenges like climate change, limited resources, social equity, and rapid urban growth.
The shortlisted projects include Foster + Partners’ DY Patil Centre of Excellence, a university building for 3,000 students in Maharashtra, India, and David Chipperfield Architects’ Rockbund, a restoration and expansion of former European colonial buildings in Shanghai. Caruso St John Architects’ renovation of a modernist office building in Brussels is also on the list.
Awards group chair Neil Gillespie praised the projects, stating, “These projects show how architects can respond to complex social, cultural, and environmental challenges… They demonstrate the power of architecture to connect people, strengthen identity, and create inclusive, resilient places for future generations.”
