MuseLAB, an Indian architecture studio, has designed a vibrant multi-generational residence in Mumbai, where grids take center stage. The 278-square-meter apartment, Gingham Dreams, features a recurring grid pattern that shifts in scale and expression, creating a sense of order and calm. The grid extends onto walls, ceilings, furniture, and flooring, incorporating a color palette of pastel hues, coral, pale blue, warm beige, and Lake Placid green, with materials such as marble, veneer, quartzite, and mosaic. The design elements include a Japanese shoji-style partition, latticed wooden partition, and pixelated texture, showcasing the studio’s playful approach to grids.
“The grid is a very simple element. It gives the space a sense of order and calm, yet it also allows the freedom to play and experiment with,” say Jasem Pirani and Huzefa Rangwala, founders of MuseLAB.
