Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday directed officials to fast-track the construction of the new Odisha Bhawan in New Delhi, a seven-storey structure designed to highlight the stateโs cultural heritage.
The upcoming G+6 building, spread over 4,761 sq. m., will house 45 rooms across categories, a conference hall, and architectural features inspired by Odishaโs stone carvings, Sambalpuri ikat, and traditional motifs. The old Odisha Bhawan in Chanakyapuri, declared unsafe, was demolished in September last year.
At the review meeting, Majhi also stressed the need for additional accommodation at Odisha Bhawan in Mumbai, given the large number of cancer patients from the state seeking treatment there. He further suggested setting up Odisha Bhawans in Ayodhya, Hyderabad, and Surat, cities with a significant Odia population and growing visitor inflow.
The meeting also reviewed plans for renovating Utkal Bhawan in Kolkata. Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Satyabrata Sahu, and Principal Secretary Saswat Mishra were among those present.
