Heatherwick Studio has revealed images of its first-ever project in Thailand, Hatai, a new public space with two hotels in Bangkok’s Silom area. The project features a “lantern quarter” with stacked buildings inspired by traditional Thai lanterns, offering a softer silhouette in the skyline. The complex will include two hotels, Six Senses and Narai Hotel, with 300 rooms, a wellness centre, ballroom, and conference facilities.
The public areas will span 5,200 square meters, featuring a green canopied village, restored canal, shrine, open-air market, event spaces, and a nursery. Thomas Heatherwick, Founder and Design Director at Heatherwick Studio, said the studio aimed to connect with Thailand’s heritage in a deeper way, adding detail, feeling, and story to the city.
The design incorporates elements of Thai culture, including traditional lanterns, and aims to encourage street-level life filled with curiosity and exploration. Hatai is scheduled to open in late 2027.
